On Thursday 30th August at Forest Hills Golf Club there was a meeting between the GCCG Governing Body and the GCS Trust Board to decide the location of the new Forest of Dean Community Hospital. This hospital will have only 2 dozen beds as opposed to the current total of about 100 in Lydney and Dilke hospitals. Labour members demonstrated in the hope of making the attendees remember their consciences and of stopping any closure to any Forest of Dean hospital. The closure policy of course typifies the Tories attitude to our Health Services in a “nutshell”; Austerity and Cuts to Public services which the poorest people in our community rely upon, together with Privatisation of National Assets which currently belong to all of us, namely the existing buildings and land of the two hospitals. Both The Dilke and Lydney Hospital are Community Hospitals – they are not for emergency treatment or operations, their purpose is to take “recovering” patients whose operation or treatment requires a longer term of hospitalisation than the crowded Gloucester hospital can offer. If we lose approx 80 beds where will these patients go? The organisation coordinating support and planning legal action to save the hospitals is HOLD see https://www.facebook.com/HoldOurHospitals/ and support them if you can. We must not give up.
